One of the best movie’s I have ever watched was called the Ultimate Gift. The purpose was to teach the main character a lesson but as the viewer, I too was able to take out the valuable lesson in it. To give a little synopsis, a wealthy Grandfather passes on and in order for his wild and spoil Grandson to receive his inheritance he must first overcome 12 lessons which are gifts. The 12 gifts were, the gift of work, money, friends, learning, problems, family, laughter, dreams, giving, gratitude, a day, and love. Many in which we take for granted.
Take, for example, the gift of work. One may say well the only gift in that is a paycheck, but it is not. Work fulfills us in ways that are sometimes hidden. Work gives us purpose, patience and skills that teaches us how to problem solve, responsibility, consistency, and discipline. It shows how much our actions, rather good or bad, affect the ones within our work environment. There is so many people that complain about their work. I used to be one of those people to an extent. But after taking a risk, I realized that humbleness is required in those moments. Instead of complaining, change it and if you cannot change the environment, change your perspective on that environment. Instead of focusing on the negative, focus on the positive. Which are the many ways this job helps you function within this society.
That then ties into the gift of gratitude. Which is truly a gift to have. Having gratitude is not just within moments we find satisfying but it is also having it during our dissatisfying moments, which is truly when it is most useful. Enduring gratitude during disappointment, give us hope, encouragement and motivation to grow. Be grateful for where you are now, what you have now and the person you are now. Even when it does not seem like a lot, what and who are you comparing that too? Each life is different with its own challenges no matter how beautiful it may appeal to your eye, appreciate, and love yours.
Appreciate the gift of a day. Something as simple as a day will humble you. You are not entitled a day; you are granted it. So, if you find nothing to be thankful for, be thankful that you get another day to make a change or a difference.
